Aging can greatly affect eyesight and hearing. Some people experience difficulty reading while others strain to see things far away that they once could. To promote eye and ear health, schedule regular check-ups and follow your doctor’s advice. Also, wear sunglasses when outdoors and ear protection when around loud noises.
Aging makes us more vulnerable to tooth decay and infection. To promote oral health, brush teeth twice a day and schedule regular cleanings and check-ups with your dentist.
With age, skin becomes more fragile and less elastic. Also, our skin becomes drier and sometimes tends to bruise and wrinkle more easily. To keep skin healthy, bathe in warm water and use moisturizer regularly. Also, use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors, especially in the sun. Finally, as with most other aspects of your health, don’t smoke. Smoking contributes to general skin damage such as wrinkling.
As we age, our metabolism tends to slow and it becomes more difficult to maintain a healthy weight. Also, our bodies increase in fat mass while muscle mass decreases, requiring us to take in less calories than we once could. Eat healthy, watch portion sizes, and include physical activity in your daily routine in order to maintain a healthy weight into your later years.
